Prevention Saves Lives: Reaching 182 Lives Through Cancer Awareness and Screening

At Kalpavriksham, every outreach program is a step toward creating a healthier, more informed community. During Week #21 (25th–31st May 2026), our dedicated team successfully organized five impactful events, reaching 182 beneficiaries through cancer awareness sessions and free breast cancer screening camps.

From educating communities to providing early detection services, each initiative reinforced our belief that awareness and timely screening can save lives.

Cancer Screening Camp – Susheelamma Old Age Home, Thiruninravur

We began the week with a free breast cancer screening camp under Project ARISE at Susheelamma Old Age Home, Thiruninravur.

A total of 23 women received free iBreast screenings along with guidance on recognizing early warning signs of breast cancer. The session also encouraged regular self-examinations and highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, especially among elderly women.

Cancer Awareness Talk – Krishna Old Age Home, Chennai

On the same day, Project Shakthi conducted a cancer awareness session at Krishna Old Age Home, Annanur, Chennai, benefiting 30 residents.

The interactive session covered:

  • Early symptoms of common cancers
  • Lifestyle modifications for cancer prevention
  • Importance of regular health check-ups
  • Busting myths surrounding cancer

Participants actively engaged with the speakers, making the session informative and impactful.

Cancer Awareness Session – Better World Shelter, Chennai

On 26th May, our team visited Better World Shelter, a home supporting homeless women with disabilities in Chennai.

The awareness program reached 44 beneficiaries, focusing on:

  • Understanding cancer risks
  • Preventive healthcare practices
  • Importance of routine medical screening
  • Accessing healthcare services

The session was designed to be inclusive, ensuring every participant could understand and benefit from the information shared.

Free Breast Cancer Screening – Saraswathi Matric Hr. Sec. School, Ambattur

Continuing our mission of early detection, Project ARISE organized another Cancer Screening Camp at Saraswathi Matric Higher Secondary School, Kallikuppam, Ambattur.

A total of 25 women underwent free iBreast screenings, receiving personalized guidance and referrals wherever necessary.

Early screening remains one of the most effective tools in reducing breast cancer mortality, and initiatives like these help make preventive healthcare more accessible.

Heat Wave Awareness Event with Cancer Awareness Talk – Thiruvanmiyur

The week concluded with a unique community outreach program titled "An Evening of Light Music", combined with a Cancer Awareness Talk under Project Shakthi at Madras Pickleball Court, Thiruvanmiyur.

The event welcomed 60 participants, blending community engagement with health education.

Through an engaging and approachable format, attendees learned about:

  • Cancer prevention strategies
  • Importance of early diagnosis
  • Healthy lifestyle habits
  • Coping with heat-related health concerns

The event demonstrated how health education can effectively reach wider audiences when integrated into community gatherings.
