Breast cancer continues to claim lives, but early screening gives us the power to fight back. Kalpavriksham, through its pioneering Project Femicare+, has been at the forefront of cancer prevention in Tamil Nadu by organizing free cancer screening camps for underprivileged women. So far, the initiative has screened 2,992 women, providing 1,456 mammograms and 1,536 Pap smears-all at no cost to participants.
Many women don’t realize that early breast cancer often has no symptoms. Regular screenings, especially mammograms, are the most effective way to detect cancer early. Did you know that in India, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 4 minutes and loses her battle with the disease every 8 minutes? These statistics show just how urgent the need for accessible screening truly is.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and supporters, Kalpavriksham has already saved 17 women from cancer. But we know we can-and must-do more. The need for a new mammogram machine is critical to scaling our outreach and ensuring we can help more women survive and thrive.
